Duct Leak Testing2015-06-06T17:23:35+00:00

  • Califonia’s Energy Code, Title 24, requires duct testing in your residential home or commercial building when you have a central air conditioner or furnace installed or replaced. Ducts that have more than 15% leakage must be sealed or repaired in order to comply with California standards. Duct Leakage testing is used in residential single family, residential multi-family and commercial buildings that have forced air heating and cooling systems. Leaky return ducts can bring pollutants into homes from attics, basements, crawl spaces or the garage. Leaky supply ducts can cause back drafting of fuel burning appliances (fire places, water heaters etc.) which is caused by depressurization of the building. A duct leakage testing device is a diagnostic tool designed to measure the air tightness of a forced air heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) distribution system. Duct leakage is a major contributor to energy loss.
